I will be inheriting a time share from my dad. It feels more like he indentured his family for generations to come. I will be stuck with the maintenance fees in perpetuity. I also will be the executer of his estate and will have to pay the maintenance fees out of the estate until it is sold. If that is possible. Worst nightmare. What if his estate can never sell it! If I disinherit it I guess my son will have to disinherit it also. Timeshares suck! I will never by one myself but will undoubtedly be forced to deal with one soon. Any suggestions.

Time shares are not that bad. I've had them for over 20 years and they have enabled me to go places and enjoy vacations I might not have otherwise.
The maintenance can be onerous, but why not try using it to get your money's worth?

If you feel that way about it, don't accept it. In order for you to assume ownership from the estate you would have to somehow accept ownership. Simply refuse to do so. As executor, notify the organization which receives payment of the maintenance fee that no devisee has accepted ownership.

Or sell it, find a buyer for a dollar ( assuming there is no loan on it) or give it to one of the charity companies that does time share ( you may have to pay them a fee of several 100 dollars for them to take it)
But yes, time shares can be great, a very cheap vacation to some wonderful places

There is a way out. You have to pay a transfer company. It sucks having to pay... but it's more expensive and a hassle to do it otherwise. All the resale companies are scams... think about it... why would someone buy if you can get on Ebay and get it for 1$? And those ones don't even sell. Ya... timeshares are scams

If you have had it over 20 years I would be afriad to find out what your maintenance fees are.. Did you know that you can go to any timeshare resort and not have to be a member? Have you ever heard of Expedia? Or Costco travel? You can go to a triple diamond 4 star Hyatt resort on the beach in Hawaii for $449/week... and I didn't even have to book last minute...
Seriously... Timeshares are outdated!
