My vehicle is up for repossession, I know this. The tow truck came by last night, stopped in front of my house and then drove off. He went around the corner and spoke to my neighbors and asked for them to help him get my van. He told them there would be something in it for them. The vehicle was in the driveway so I don't know why he would do that but is he allowed to speak to others in my neighborhood about my vehicle repossession?

Yes they can... if you didn't make your payments they are entitled to take it back. After all its really not yours to keep until you pay for it in full. And that includes talking with ALL of your neighbors, or family to find out where you are hiding it.
Do yourself a favor and tell them where it is and give them the keys. If you don't it only escalates the problem. And NOT in your favor.

Yes of course, and again, not sure why he did not take it then, except he may want to do it when you are at work and not around so there is no "scene"

When someone repos a vehicle it can end up in a very nasty scene as Chuck pointed out above. And also the more expensive the vehicle is the less likely the owner will be to let it go. Repo guys have a very risky business and can get seriously hurt while doing their job.
The repo guy can talk to anyone he so choses and offer "rewards" for anyone's help. It's well known that they like to take vehicles when the owner is not at home to enable them to have plenty of time to properly secure the vehicle so there is no damage done to the vehicle.
It's best not to play games. Give the bank back their vehicle if you can't keep up with the payments.
