My adorable 9 week old puppy who is a shorkie aka shih tzu/yorkshire terrier mix, is acting a little off today. She has been very sleepy and not wanting to play much and has maybe ate a few kibbles since lunch time. She is drinking water just fine and pooped twice and peed twice. She just wants to be snuggled up and has no desire to play with anything. Is this normal for a puppy her age? I'm worried she is not eating enough. I have been feeding her three times a day and taking the food away from her after 25 minutes or so, but since she has barely eaten, I have left it out for her today. Any thoughts or suggestions? This is my family's first dog/puppy so I want to make sure we are doing everything we can! Thank you!

You have a lovely little baby who is growing while sleeping. She will sleep a lot; eat when she wants, but is drinking water so don't worry.

Keep up to date on what shots she needs, vet visits to keep track of her progress.

Good luck

Thank you! I needed some reassurance. We have her scheduled for her next round of shots in two weeks, so we can start socializing her with other dogs and start puppy classes.

For sure to get your socialized, a most important aspect of your upbringing.

Yes it sounds normal, puppies sleep a LOT, and they do have days where they aren't very hungry. IF she doesn't eat anything for 2 whole days then you can think about taking her to the vet, but just having one off day is fine.

Puppy socialisation classes are fantastic, it not only teaches your dog to behave around other dogs and people, but it makes the bond stronger between you and the pup and once you start with obedience (sit, stay, come etc) it will establish you as the alpha in the pack which is very important for future training.

I got some great advice and Petsmart and decided to try a different food. It was a wise decision because it was the first time she finished every single kibble in her bowl!
