Hello,

I was sentenced to one year of probation with opportunity of early termination after 6 months. (Orange County, FL) I have now passed my 6 month period and every time I ask my PO about early termination I get the run around. First she told me I'd have to pay the full year's probation costs up-front, then that I'd have to be at least 3 months in advance. We always do group sessions (5 or more people at a time) and every time I ask now the conversation seems to get changed and I am unable to get a straight answer out of my PO. Does anyone know the exact steps that have to be taken to request early termination. I have completed all my required community service house (within the first month of probation) passed every drug test they've given me, etc.

Hello T:

You're going to have to go around your PO. Ask your PO for the policy manual. Find the part about early termination, see if you meet the criteria, write the judge a letter TELLING him that you DO, and you request early release.

The Judge is the one who decides if you get off early - NOT the PO. Most probationers just listen to the PO's run around and not do what Exie above says to do. The PO is not going to tell you that they really have no say so but that they only can recommend to the Judge that you be terminated early from probation. It's the Judge's decision in the end.
