Most of the time, practice does wonders. Along with this is paying attention in class, doing the homework well, asking the teacher to re-explain something if you don't fully understand something, asking for help towards friends who understood something well, etc.

During exams, you shouldn't panic, be calm and work at your pace. If you don't finish in time, you'll know that you didn't have enough practice.

If you have lots of homework it is important to take small breaks in between them so that you could focus better, because you will have a hard time being fully concentrated if you do all your homework at once.

First figure out what you're doing wrong (i.e. bad study habits, lack of work ethic, etc.) and then look to correct it.
