My dog was running in the yard and slipped in the leaves. He immediately fell to the ground and yelped, but then tried to take off playing again, dragging his back end behind him. Of course we took him to the vet immediately. They started him on a slew of pills... steroids, antibiotics, and pain relievers. My question is how did this happen? They said he has bruised his spinal column and that with care and meds, will likely be able to use both legs well again.

Today (3 days after the injury) he's using his left leg, but not his right. And he does't seem to know when he needs to use the bathroom. Poor pup has messed himself several times and I can't tell if its due to the drugs he's taking or due to the injury itself. Dr's office is always busy - find myself not getting the answers I'd like and would like to know if there is a name for this condition.
