I have a fairly recent pvc pipe water system installation in my house. The other day I noticed a drip from one of the metal flexi hoses leading from the hot water outlet of my boiler. When I tried to tighten it, both ends of the flexi hose broke away as they were corroded. It also happened on the hot water flexi hose connection to my sink and my chrome hot water inlet to my shower mixer tap is also rusting. Does anyone have an idea why all my hotwater connections are corroding to the point they break? This only appears to be from the upstairs system as have separate boiler downstairs. Thanks

Are you on a pump or city water? When you say "boiler" do you mean hot water heating boiler or a hot water tank? Back to you, Tom

Hi Tom, I'm mains water and I mean I have a hot water heating boiler (200 litre). The cold water fittings don't appear to be corroding so was wondering why the hot ones are. Thanks mate, Ralph

Hi Ralphy...

If the flexible hoses are the same for both hot and cold the only thing that comes to my mind is that when your boiler heats the water it can cause the water to become more acidic and it could be this increase in acidity that is causing the havoc with the hot water fittings.

I have seen it a few times, but more so as an increase in corrosion between dissimilar metals being joined together.

You could always do a PH test to see if this is reasonable.

Anyway, I'm reaching pretty far out here... ;) Any chance you could post a picture of the corroded hoses? Both hot and cold pics. Would be great for comparison.

Thanks... Mark

Hi Mark, many thanks for your info. I think you could be right about this. I am from Scotland but live in Bulgaria now and some of the fittings are pretty cheap quality from China but the cold water fittings seem to be fine. Will post photos, Thx R
