My x-wife and I have a 16 year old son together. The last 14 years I have paid child support every month on time and I have made every effort to see him since I was in the military. Now retired, the arguments are never ending and always leaving me hanging by me and my family are always wrong or to blame for everything etc... She now states that she wants me to sign over parental rights. She has been remarried since 98 to a 20 year police officer and she is a secretary for a law office in NJ. My question is if I give up parental rights will this terminate my child support obligation? Will her husband be required to adopt him after I sign over rights? Since I said that I would sign over my rights she has now threatened to take me back to court for an increase in support. I now live in NC with my current wife and our three children. I don't know NJ law please help.

please help.Hello f:

You can't give up your rights. Even if you could, it won't change your child support obligation...

Ok, I take it back. The only way this can happen is if her new husband will adopt. Otherwise, you're the father with all the responsibilities and obligations any father has.
