Hi
I came to US on a F1 Visa in August 2006. I Started my OPT from Dec 2008, and I got my H1b Visa in October 2010. My Employer has not been deducting SSNa and Medicare Taxes, since I was in OPT. Since my H1b started in October, should ask my employer to deduct these taxes? Or should I ask them to start doing it from January 2011. When I file my taxed do I have to pay the SSN and Medicare Taxes for October, November and December?

Please advice.

Thanks
Kiran

You should ask your employer to deduct SSN and Medicare taxes from October 2010. Only your employer can pay these taxes to IRS.

Ok they are not currently deducting? I had told them I would notify when they should start deducting? Should I ask them to deduct the taxes from January 2011. What should I do while filing the returns for 2010?

You became liable for FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes on 1 October 2010. That is when your employer should start the deductions, even if it is after the fact.
