Hi!

I have a E-2 Employee visa right now, and I visited nearest bank to open a bank account.

From the bank, the banker asked me if I am Resident alien or Non-resident alien

Since I have temporary work visa I though I am a non-resident alien but it's very confusing cause my son entered public elementary school recently. And the school teacher said to me I am a resident alien so they let my son in the public school.

Could you please let me know Who am I ?

Thanks in advance

Leon:

HOW LONG have you been in the United States on your current E-2 visa?

You have investor visa or work visa. Any bank interest earned during the period you are in the U.S. is taxable in U.S. so your account should not be non-resident account.
If you have social security number, ask bank to open resident bank account.
