I've being trying to find the name of a movie that I watched in the early 90's but the only scene I remember is the one where a whole army of what looked like elves and gnomes are waiting to get attacked by an army of dark and black monsters or bad guys in black armor on the distance with torches and lights. One older elf tells a younger one something like don't worry we will win as we have in the past. The next scene shows that everyone appears to have died and the younger elf is hiding in a cave and seems to be the only survivor. That's all I can remember from it, I do know that as this war is happening something else is taking plot in the movie but I can't remember what it was. It kind of reminds me of the Lord of the Rings but is not. Can any one help me out?
