I bought an electric clothes dryer thinking it would work with the regular outlets in apt. However, and no wonder the guy left in a hurry and got angry when I asked to return it, get money back, the end of the dryer plug is 3 flat prongs, with a sticker that says it is 125v/250v. Without rewiring the kitchen, is there a way that I can convert a regular outlet so that the dryer can work?
By the way I learned a hard lesson, $130 worth... so far no one is willing to buy the dryer, so am stuck for now.

If this is a typical standard household electric dryer then 100% absolutely no way can it be done.

A household electric clothes dryer requires a 4-wire 120/240v-30A circuit.

Have the store return to pick up dryer. They sold you something you cannot use.

Store did not sell the wrong dryer, the buyer bought the wrong unit.

At $130.00 I am sure this was bought from a private owner or second hand dealer.


The only dryer I know that works on regular outlets is a gas dryer, and that of course needs a gas line also. There may be a 120 volt electric dryer available, but it would be a small apartment size unit.

Took a minute and did a search, a small 120 volt unit is made:

Perhaps you can locate a second hand dealer that would trade the 240 volt unit you have.

Unfortunately, electrically there is no solution other than installing a 30 amp circuit as explained by Stan. And this could cost $500.00 plus depending on your apartment.

Sorry for your dilemma, I don think we can offer much more advice to help, hopefully others will read this before buying appliances and learn what it needed before the purchase.
