Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me. This is an older unit, we just replaced the compressor back in July and now once I started running the heat it makes a really loud high pitch squealing noise when it's running. Inside the house everything works fine, the heat comes out, etc...

It is a heat pump I am pretty sure... it has a/c and heat that come out of it and there is a large return box/pipes upstairs. Sorry, I'm a female so not good with the terminology LOL... thanks for any help! I just need to know what I can do, or what this might be?

When you say high pitched do you mean a whining or maybe something scrapping. The fan blade could be hitting the edge or you may have a motor that is going up.

Hi there,

Thanks for your response. It is a high pitch shreaking noise? Kind of like a house alarm inside if you've ever heard one? Lol... not really sure how to describe it, but my dad says maybe it might be the bearings or something are going bad? He doesn't know much about heating/air units, so I want to make sure what it might be? Thanks again!

The only thing that could make a noise like that is either the compressor, or the fan motor. Most likely the compressor is going out again.

Check if its your one of the smoke alarms needing to replace batteries
