Have a five year old unit that now has a dead Induced Fan Motor. Just told by contractor that this unit just went off waranty in June, and I have to pay $134.76 for a motor to make my 5 year old heater work. Is this a common problem with this Brand/Model or do these fans normally have a life span of 5 years? Thanks for the help.

Not uncommon on any brand of furnace. It's a mechanical part. Ive seen them go bad within a year, and I've seen ones that are twenty years old that are still working. Its kind of a crapshoot. It sucks that warranty just expired recently, but isn't that the way it always seems to go. Hopefully the new draft inducer will last for years to come.
We actually install goodmans for the last 8 or so years, got hundreds of them out there, and only have had to replace (as a guestimate) less than ten draft inducers. Now that's not to say that the customer didn't call another company to replace the inducer, so its really hard to say exactly how many were indeed replaced. Hope this helps.
