My dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer 8 months ago and has since been unable to work. He has no savings to live off, all he gets is $1000 a month from cpp to live off a month. Td Visa has sent him to collections because he is unable to make his payments. Can they come after his truck or boat and take them or take money directly out of his account?

They aren't interested in the boat or truck, resale value will not give them back what they want. They can't just 'send him to collections', they have to get a judgment against him in order to collect, but they can't get what he hasn't got in the bank if it is not direct deposited. You probably mean he he gets of old age security and canada pension, which together would total about $l000. Cancel the direct deposits with the government and have the cheques sent by mail to his home address.

You can't stop them from going after what is owed them, but you can make sure that if they get a judgment to garnish a bank account, the money isn't in there to take.
