80's era GE electric stove. Without warning, one burner (coil type burners) will heat up to the highest setting. You have to turn the knob to the off position to stop this & then after it's cooled off a little, turn it back on to the desired setting. Sometimes that holds, sometimes it jumps back to High heat again - intermittent. Does this sound like a thermostat problem? It only happens on one burner, so I'm guessing there's a separate thermostat control for each burner? This is obviously a hazardous condition which I'd like to try and fix before thinking about a new stove. I'm not handy, but can follow directions pretty well if anyone knows of a good site for schematics or tips.
