I have an older GE dryer; maybe 7yrs old, or so, & it dries really well, but has a horrible loud squeaking noise. I'm just wandering if its something I can fix, & or how I can look to see if it's an easier problem to fix vs. having to take it in for repair

2 common causes:

1. The wear strips (4) on the top of the plastic dryer drum bearing are worn out. Easy to replace these and they cost $4 or less each (replace them all).

2. The wear strips are completely worn out and the drum has damaged the plastic drum bearing. Again easy to replace, but part cost is $25 to about $70.

I would fix it by finding problem, but it should be cleaned by disassembling and washing out parts that handle air because accumulated dirt will cause a fire. DrTom4444
