My first pregnancy was twins which I went into labor @ 28 weeks and had two sickly babies which one passed away and my other son is now 3 years and always playing"catch up". I'm now on my second pregnancy with only a single baby this time 12 weeks along and my doctor is telling me there is no need to monitor me any closer or to be concerned that I will go into premature labor. Is this true or should I be seeking out a different doctor.

A second opinion never hurts.

You wouldn't be considered high risk for a premature birth with this pregnancy, assuming you continue to have a normal pregnancy, simply due to your previous experience.

Twins often are early... so it is somewhat a given that they will be on the early side. This would not have any bearing on a future singleton pregnancy.

Premature birth would be an issue to watch for with a woman who has a history of a few premature births since a pattern would already be established.

Your apprehension is understandable of course, so you could certainly ask for some extra monitoring for the peace of mind.

I agree with Doula - it depends on the exact circumstances of your previous pregnancy.

I was also pregnant with twins, but lost one early. The surviving twin was born at 32w. She was early because of placental abruption, likely caused by an underlying auto-immune disorder I have. THAT will cause me to have future monitoring with my next pregnancy.

I suggest speaking to your doctor about your concerns. If you do not have any underlying/related issues, you can rest easy and enjoy this pregnancy as much as possible. :) Good luck!
