Hi,We get a landlord problem. We are students studyig for our master degree,
We found a flat to rent in in last month and we made a contract with the landlord who is a Indian.
He promised many things but none of them came to be true, such as the time we can move in,we were disappointed again and again,so we talked with him and he agreed to cancle this contract and gave us the 3000 pound deposite back to us in 10th October,
But he later went back on his word,he told us that he could only give us the deposite back after he find some new tenants when we called him in 10th October,
But still,he said he did not find new tenants yesterday,we can not wait forever and we are not able to know if he find someone.Actually, the last time he formulated ads about the flat on the internet is on 17th October,so,maybe he have already found someone. Could you please tell me what to do then? Thanks.
Regards

First, What does the fact that he is Indian have to do with anything? Second, did you get the agreement to cancel the lease in writing? Third, do you have documentation of the things promised to do and not done? Finally, ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

So this means you need to consult a solicitor who can tell you what chances you have in a suit against him. That may be the only way to force him to return the deposit.

Is your rental contract in writing?
