I have an old Mueller Climatrol furnace, model # SHP-8 and I am unable to light the pilot. I have also been unable to find any diagrams on this model. Thank you for your help.

1. Find the place where the pilot flame would be if it was lit.

2. See the small piece of metal with a very small copper tube attached? That's the thermocouple, it generates a few milivolts when the pilot is lit.Follow the tube back to it's sorce. Near it there will be a button you can push, pushing and holding it down will bypass the safety pilot cut off. Now you can light the pilot. You need to continue to hold the button till you hear a click or long enough for flame to generate a few milivolts of electricity to open the main gas valve. When it has you can take your finger off the button and the piolet will stay on.

3. There is a reason the pilot went out, blew out ? Then no more elect. And the safety valve slams shut and the home does not fill with gas.

4. If the pilotdoes not stay lit when you let go the button then the main gas valve is bad or the thermo couple is bad.

Then call a repairman.
