There was a news program on the radio today of strange laws passed going into effect for 2007.

One state I believe Ohio has made it legal to set up a trust in the name of your dog. I am just thinking some dog out there having more money in the bank than me.

Anyone else hear of any new laws or even old strange laws.

I posted this under family, since trusts are family law,

If this thread takes off in another direction we can move it if needed

Many states allow for wills and trusts for pets, though I've not been able to find a list of such states online. There is a book by Peggy R. Hoyt called "All My Children Wear Fur Coats" which is almost entirely dedicated to just that... setting up provisions for your pet(s) should you not be around to care for them. However Fido will not get to manage your money. A trustee is tasked with monitoring the designated caretaker over time, ensuring that he or she provides adequate care for the pets. A trust must explain how you want to dispose of the remainder of the fund after the animal dies.
