My house suddenly has a horrible smell. From what I can tell, it's coming from our basement/celler. It smells like a wet diaper pail. Our house was built in the 1920s and we've lived here for almost four years. My husband thought it was from a dead mouse in the mousetrap, which he removed, but it's still so strong. Do I call a plumber, an exterminator?

Do you have any fixture drains or floor drains that rarely get water flushed through them, this could be an evaporated trap. Call a plumber if you must but I'd do some more searching, the plumber will have to charge you his normal call fee and do the searching for you.
