1. With a tailwind, a jet flew 2000 miles in 8 hours, but the return trip against the same wind required 10 hours. Find the jets speed and the wind speed.

2.the coin box of the vending machine contains 6 times as many quarters as dimes. If the total amount of money at the end of the day is $28.80, how many of each kind of coin are in the box?

3. a 4% salt solution is mixed with a 16% salt solution. How many milliliters of each solution are needed to obtain 600 milliliters of a 10% solution?

Let the speed of the jet be j and the speed of the wind be w.

What can you say about j and w in the first statement,
and in the second statement?

2. Let the number of quarters be q and the number of dimes be d.

What can you say about them?

3. Let the volume of 4% salt solution be x and the volume of 16% salt solution by y. What can you say about them?
