Hi, I'm just wondering if protein shake is considered a drug? I have a very important job interview and they are doing a drug test and I'm scared if I start taking protein shakes, it might show up on the test.

I have never taken protein shakes before and I was wondering also if it would help building muscles and weight? Also if so which brand is the best? Thanks

No, a protein shake is not a drug. It's an adult version of what they feed babies who get bottles! It's whey or casein or a combination of them, and they are both dairy products that you get in all sorts of other foods.

They can help with building muscle, because they are very easy for your body to absorb, so if you take one small shake when your muscles are fatigued after lifting weights, the protein in them goes straight to the muscle to repair it bigger and better than before.

They won't do anything if you are not lifting hard.

Look for a brand which has at least 80% protein.

Oh. Thank You! That clears it up more. Also I was wondering, if protein shakes might cause problems? I heard from some people that is is unhealthy, yet also from lots of people that they are taking it so I'm a little confused.

How can they be unhealthy? They are pretty much dried milk, perhaps with a few vitamins added. But they do have calories, and if you are trying to lose weight, you need to be aware of that.

But there is good research to show that a small shake after lifting can help with muscle building, and that replacing a regular meal with a protein shake can help weight control.
