My daughter is nearly 3, I was with her father for 3 years before she was born and his name is on her birth certificate which means he has parental responsibility, we live in uk. Since we split when she was a few months old he doesn't see her or provide child support. He is an alcoholic and has had a liver transplant but is still drinking, I don't want her seeing him as he is very verbally abusive and threatening, he no longer works and hasn't gave me an address so I can't claim child support. Is it possible to have her surname changed to mine even though he is on birth certificate? I don't want her growing up asking question as to why she has got a different name, her dad also has 3 other children to 2 other different women and doesn't see or support them either but because they were born before the law changed about putting name on birth certificate meaning that they have parental responsibility they have mangaged to change there's. Is there any way around getting my daughters name changed before she gets any older? And how do I go about this?
