Hey all... I'm 19 and obviously have had my period for a few years now but I find that I have a complete hormonal rollercoaster in the days before and the first few days of my period
I know that it's a normal thing and most girls do get it but I really really do hate taking everything personally and wanting to cry at every little thing
Usually I would just have a winge to my sisters but I'm on the other side of the world to them right now
Does anyone have and tips to make it not so depressingly emotional.. (besides 10 bars of chocolate and a tub of icecream?)
Thanks :)

Are you sure you don't have Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)? It is a condition where depressive symptoms during the typical PMS stage become severe and alarming. It is normal for a woman to be a little emotional before and during their periods. But if the symptoms cause a usually perky person to do a complete 180 degrees and be an emotional mess for no reason, this might be PMDD. If this doesn't sound like you that is great. However, the treatment for both PMS and PMDD are almost the same.

-Exercise during your period. It might sound strange because you are cramping and feeling gross but it releases chemicals in the brain that cause people to be happy.
-Take Vitamin B6. It can be in pill form but good sources include meats, whole grain products, vegetables, nuts and bananas. Cooking, storage and processing of these foods can result in vitamin loss so be careful.
-Talk to a doctor. They will be able to tell you a lot more than this website can. Good luck!
