I was recently given a citation and was wondering if it was legal to just leave a ticket in the door. My husband and I weren't home so the officer just left the ticket in the door. Since we didn't sign it does that mean that we are legally obligated to appear in court?

What was the citation for ? They can leave parking infraction tickets on a car windshield, and one is still obligated to pay it.

Yes you are obligated to pay.

It was a citation for Dog at Large

So it was a by law enforcer then. I don't know what you want to do with it; pay it or throw it away. I don't know how well these issues are enforced where you live.

If your dog was at large then you were at fault.

It's a summons. It's NOT an invitation. If you DON'T go, you'll be found guilty and fined. If you don't pay the fine, it'll double, then triple, and then go to collections. If you don't pay then, your credit will be ruined, you'll be sued, and have a judgment against you, If you don't pay then, your wages will be garnished and your bank accounts will be seized.

So, I'd go. You could always plead not guilty.

You can just leave it in the door, and not show up, they don't care, if you don't show up, they will just find you guilty, set the fine at the max and then bill you for it.

So was your dog running loose, Do you have the required shots for the dog and so on, what you will have to show in court normally
