Hello. I am 16 years old and I would like to get emacipated. Could any of you people help me with my problem. My parents are not what you would call perfect. I would like to get out of their home and live with my girfriend in another state. I need to get emancipated first though. Please help me.

If you are 16, you need your parents consent to get emancipated. Which means you go to the courts, fill out paper work and then you are put on a contract with the courts that monitors you if they grant you the emancipation. Its not easy, I've done it and you will definitely have to show that you are active in some sort of schooling or you at least have a GED, you will need a job and you have to have a positive living environment or at least stable. Mine was through a different state, but the laws are somewhat similar with any state for emancipation I believe. But look it up just to be sure.
Good Luck!

You would have to have better reasons than your parents not being perfect. You would also have to show the court that you can support yourself, which means a job a place to live etc. You can't do that if your plan is to live with someone else.

Contact a Family law attorney in your area or check if a local law school has a law clinic that can give you the legal process.

Yes, you will have to have specific reasons, next going to live with girlfriend is not one of them.

You would first ( after having a reason)
Have a job that will allow you to support yourself, living alone
Have enough money saved to pay all your first few months bills ( living alone)
Have enough money for an attorney to file for this.
