I bought a house in which the last owner converted the garage to a bonus room and installed 2 identical Hampton Bay ceiling fans (model #AC-55200). One of these was tied into the garage light switch and one was not. The switched unit just gets power on and off, the light and fan must be opperated from the remote. Both work from the same remote, and generally have. (Though it's been difficult to get both to come on with one remote push, and this leads to one going off as the other comes on. Ugh).

Recently, the fan on the independently wired fan will only work in one direction. I assume the switch has gone bad.

Last week, the light bulb blew out and when I replaced it, the remote will not opperate the lights at all (They are stuck light up), though the fan sill operates from the remote.

I don't have any kind of manual for the fans, and can't get the thing apart to get into the bell housing to even try to do anything.

Any suggestions about what the problem maybe and what I may be missing in the dissassembly? I'm an engineer so you'd think I could get it apart, but I'm obviously missing something here.

Little help?

My son was able to fix mine. He is an electrictian. He just unscrewed the screws and gave it a little twist. He installed my remote at the same time.Took less than a minute. Can't be sure of the model number I have as they were here when I moved in. But give it a try-you've got nothing to lose

Ok, it sounds like the receiver(s) has gone bad it whichever fan is not operating properly. Since you are an engineer you could try to repair them, but much easier to just replace them.

If the fans have pullchains they can be wired without the receivers.

The bell removes, there is a decorative ring that hides the screws, you have to twist it off.
