I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 4 1/2 years ago. My doctor perscibed a beta-blocker for me which I was on for approximately a year and a half. Because of my nervousness and frequent panic attacks he also prescribed effexor for me. He also referred me to a specialist. I took the effecxor for about 1/2 a year and since it d didn't help and had too many side effects I stop taking it. About 1/5 years ago he did another blood test and found that my tsh was slightly low. He a few more tests and then put me on synthroid.
Since then I've gotten gradually worse. I have very little energy throughout the day, my throat feels full, I'm having memory problems, I have respiratory and sinus problems, and many more symptoms. In short, I feel like a zombie.
I've read a book on hypothyroidism and it states that armour thyroid tablets are more beneficial as opposed to synthetic ones. Is this true and has anyone tried them?
I would really appreciate your comments and help
Thx

Can you respond by telling me what your actual diagnosis was 4 1/2 years ago? In your post, you stated that you were diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism, but you said that you read a book on Hypothyroidism.

I am a bit confused. Of course, you kanow that this is so your question can be answered with ore precision.

Sorry, I meant that I was diagnosed initially with hyperthyroidism for which I took a beta blocker for about 1 1/2 yrs. Later on I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (correction: my tsh was too high) and put on synthroid which I've been on ever since. Hope that clears everything up.

Hope this helps slightly, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism when I was 11, I was given the usual beta blockers etc (15 tablets a day for 3and 1/2 years, after having radioactive iodine and a full thyrodectomy I am now hypo just like you but I take thyroxine(150mg) daily (for rest of my life, as you will) which has kept me stabble for some time now. I am 27 so a few years why don't you ask your doctor if there is something else you take (I got told thyroxine is the closest I'm going to get to natral hormone.:)

I was diagnosed hypothyroid 6 months ago.I started on a half grain of armour(natural thyroid)pills.I felt better ,but my weight was still over the top.I am now on 1 and half grains, and I feel like a new person.I've also lost 10 lbs. in less than 2 months.Give the natural thyroid pills a try.
