I would like to move my main electrical panel about 10ft. I was told that I can't splice my main feed cables unless I have a disconnect panel right after my meter. Would it be better to put in another panel in or should I pull new cables the 30ft undergound and not splice them. If I have to put a panel it what is it called so I can do some more research in to what I should do.

Sarge,

Are you here in the U.S.A.

If you are, then the smartest move you can make is to get at least three bids from licensed electricians to do this work.

If you do not, then you had better know how to deal with deadly (first time final) current from the line side equipment!

If I were going to do this work (and actually I do need to replace my panel) I would install a Main Disconnect Switch and tie it to the existing ground system.

Then I would run a four wire feed from the switch to the new panel. At this panel, ground and Neutral will have to be isolated from each other. The main bonding jumper in the former main panel will have to be removed.

Again, I stress to you that if you do not have experience handling line side supply currents, then do not do this work yourself.
