My friend hired her cousin to be a live in nanny for her ailing sister in law. Recently her sister in law was put in a nursing home. My friend ended the lease (lease ends oct 31 2010) and gave 13 days for her cousin to move out. Her cousin is now screaming squatters right and my friend does not know what to do to get her out. Or even if she has the right to get her out. My friend needs to cut off the lights as well as clean out the apartment in which the cousin is not allowing her to do. (because the cousin is doing her own cleaning in what we call in NYC stealing)

There is no such thing as squatters rights. The unwelcome tenant has to be evicted according to State law.
