I am 17 and a senior in high school. Right now I am nor my family no where close to being financially stable enough for me to go into college. My uncle had just got home from service and marines and is now going to college. I have thought about going into service since my freshman year, but never really had the motivation. Now that I am almost halfway finished with my senior year... I don't know whether to go into the marines because I want to serve our country and then go to college that way it is paid for. For the marines out there please don't take any of this the wrong way. Just looking for advice. I don't come from a family where I have people to help. So please if you have any information or advice... help me out.

You are either 100 percent Marine or you don't have any business being one, It is not just military service it is a way of life. It is also the hardest ( and perhaps most respected) part of our military. Their basic training makes the other services compare to the boy scouts ( well you all know what I mean I hope)

And while college benefit is a great side effect, you don't become a Marine for that reason, To most it is who you become, and you will be a Marine till the day you die.

So how much do you want it, to be one, If you are not ready to push yourself to limits you can not even dream, this is where you need to be.

If you are just looking for a way to pay for college and want to serve, the army or airforce may be something to look into

First off let me tell you that choosing a name like devildog means 1 of two things. You really do want to be a devildog or you just randomly picked your name to associate with your question. Either way I am somewhat rubbed the wrong way that the name was chosen. Being a US Marine I have worked hard, been through hell and back, sacrificed a lot to earn the title.

Now, to answer your question. I agree with the above OP. You are either in this 100% or you're not. You can't half-*** the most difficult, trying, emotionally and physcially demanding service. You just can't.

I am a Lance Corporal in United States Marine Corps. My M.O.S is 0351 Assaultman, I drill out of the 1st Battalion 24th Marines Bravo Company in Saginaw, MI. I am here to help, any questions you have I will answer and if I don't know I will find out.
