I have a DVD player, VCR, and Star Choice Satellite (Canadian) hooked up to my newer Sony television. All components are connect and working properly. I cannot get it so I can record anything that is on the satellite TV. I was told with Satellite you can only record the channel you have on which is fine. But I can't get it hooked up properly so it records anything. The satellite feeds in through Video 1. When I record on the VCR it records a selected channel which is only static. How can I hook this up so I can record satellite?

I have the same set up that you may need ( including starchoice). Take your feed from Sat. Rec'r into vcr in, then from vcr out to t.v (catv in or cable in ). Then set your t.v. to source 1 or 2 on remote for your dvd player. You can then record to vcr and the other bonus is if the kids want to watch the vcr you just hit play on vcr, no need to switch sources on the remote. I have used it this way for years.
