I've had three different answers. Two different ones from vets. I have a 5 week old orghan lab. Can she be given a 5 way puppy shot now instead of at 6 weeks? Vets here have different opinions. Sometimes a good breeder knows best. She's been off her MOM since 4 weeks of age.

Are you saying you got her at 5 weeks old? Puppys need their mom to teach them things up until at least 8 weeks old. Most breeders will not allow them to leave until that age.
I would go with the vet that you will be taking your puppy to regularly.

Really got her at 4 weeks of age. These people are nuts. I saved this puppies life. They were getting rid of them because the Mom weaned them at 4 weeks. Well, the owner didn't clip the puppies nails at about 3 weeks of age so the Mom's belly was bleeding and all messed up. Puppies were covered in fleas and chasing that poor Mommy dog down. I tried to get her to let me help her, clip the puppies nails, dr. mom and get rid of the fleas. She was laughing about it. So I picked up this one puppy and came home with her. Other people were coming the same day. They are beautiful, block head labs. Both parents were large and gorgeous. What these people were doing with this guality of dog I'll never know. All puppies were saved that day. Thank God. Now just pray for those parents.. And yes, I called the SPCA. Hope others did because they are looking to buy a chocolate lab to add to their breeding stock.
Within one hr. of getting home, my puppy got a bath, rid of fleas, was wormed and took a long nap cuddled up with me. She's adorable. I hope she makes it in this crazy world.
Thanks for asking your concerned question.

Wow that sounds awful! Those people should be reported. In some states it's illegal to sell puppies before 8 weeks of age!

I am not sure on the 5 way puppy vaccine, I would have to say go with the advice from the vet you trust most.

I would highly suggest once the pup has been vaccinated, to enroll him in puppy socialization classes. Dogs that leave the pack too soon, usually have socialization issues and tend to be aggressive and suffer from separation anxiety and when you have a big dog, that can be very dangerous.

It seems you want the best possible start for your pup, so I would also suggest when pup is old enough to get him enrolled in obedience class. This will help you establish the leadership role as well as build his self esteem.

Good luck! And thank you for saving this pups life!

Thank you for rescuing this puppy from such a horrible situation. Hopefully something happens from your reporting them to the SPCA. I just don't understand people like that, why do they even have pets?

Consult your vet about vaccination times.
Puppies get antibodies from their mother, and if a vaccine is given too early, these antibodies can actually block out the vaccines, rendering it pretty much useless. Because of this, 8 weeks and boostering at 12 and 16 weeks is best.

If I understand this correctly, the pup was weaned at 4 weeks and is now 5 weeks, and not living with the mother. How long will the antibodies stay in the system Saris? I was under the impression once weaned, they are safe to vaccinate one to two weeks after?

It varies litter to litter, which is why standards were set.
You can vaccinate as young as 6 weeks, but some vets will give an extra set (4 instead of 3) later on just to play it safe.
