You mean what WAS the goal. I know you need this for a homework question and I know the answer, not having studied American presidents per se in Canadian schooling, but a die hard history fan, Thomas Jefferson being a very colourful person and president, was one of my favourites. Thomas Jefferson did more for native indians then any other president past or future. Although some native groups did not embrace his enlightened programs, those that did prospered. He did in fact have two goals to accomplish.

All you have to do is put his name in Google for your homework assignment and your questions will be answered and while you are reading to find these answers you may learn more then you bargained for. After all, he is one of your best known American presidents.
