What was the last host city to have their team in the superbowl?

First I want to make sure I understand your question correctly.
In 2006, the Super Bowl was held in Detroit. But, the Detroit Lions were NOT in the Super Bowl.
When was that last time the city hosting the Super Bowl (Detroit), had their team (the Lions), in the super Bowl?
Assuming that is your question, then the answer is:
NEVER.

If I were to venture a guess it would be when San Francisco hosted the Superbowl in the early to mid 1980s.
San Fransisco 49rs played, but for the life of me I cannot remember who they played.

According to the list from the link, that is not the case J_9.
In 1985 they beat Miami in the Super Bowl, but that game was not in their home stadium in San Francisco, but the game was in California, at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California.
Upon further investigation…
Now that I am looking into it, I see that Stanford is only about 40 minutes away from San Francisco.
However, the 49er's were playing in Candlestick Park from 1971-1994, and therefore, it wasn't their “home” stadium.
