Yes.

Like most girls/women, periods can be off a few days here and there. Sperm can survive, under the most ideal conditions, up to 7 days. That's about a quarter of the menstral cycle right there.

Women trying to get pregnant, can narrow down their most fertile days to increase chances of ovulation, however, there is no guarantee. There are many factors at play such as the qualty of the sperm.

This might anwer some of your questions. A nice straight forward article:

How long can sperm live in a woman or in fertile cervical fluid? (http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/sperm.html)

Yes, even when you have a period.

Anytime you have unprotected sex, there is always that risk of getting pregnant.

Just to add to what the others have stated: you can only get pregnant when you ovulate.

Sperm either have to be present a few days before, and waiting for an egg to be released, or arrive when you ovulate.

However, what was pointed out is that while most women will ovulate about 12-16 days before the next period is due, some naturally ovulate sooner, some later than the average. You can also have an off cycle where you ovulate outside what would be the norm for you, so in essence, pregnancy might happen when you least expect it to. Some times are less likely, others more so, but no time is automatically 100% safe.
