Given:Jill of the Jungle swings on a vine 6.0 m long.

What is the tension in the vine if Jill, whose mass is 57 kg, is moving at 2.8 m/s when the vine is vertical?

I believe I am going about this the wrong way. Any Guidance would be awesome.

Since Jill is moving at v=2.8 m/s
at the bottom of the swing, then we can use

T=\frac{mv^{2}}{R}+mg

Sub in the givens along with R=6 and find the tension in Newtons.
Remember, g=9.8 m/s^2

Thank you so much! :)

I got:

57(2.8)^2/6 + 57(9.81)= 633

Hmmm don't forget your number of significant figures.

The calculation gives 633.65 N which becomes 634 N to 3 sig. fig. :)
