I just received my security deposit back and was hit hard for things I consider general wear and tear. I was charged for the apartment to be re-painted, new AC filters, outlet covers, and for the carpet to be cleaned. I am a very clean renter (no pets) and truly see no reason that the whole place needs to be painted again. The carpet was perfectly fine and had no stains whatsoever and was vacuumed every week. I have no idea why I would have to pay for AC filters and all the outlets had covers (that were not damaged in any way) so I'm not sure why I had to pay for those to be replaced either. I did take lots of pictures when I moved in of the wall having some scratches and nail holes from the previous tenant so I have that to rely on to counter the charge for the paint.
My problem is that I'm trying to find something official to reference to in my appeal to the charges. Can anyone tell me where I can find this?
Thanks!
