I am having my basement waterproofed and the company came out on Wednesday and took 2 trees out of my front flower bed. 1 small ash tree and a brand new wheeping cherry tree. When I got home I talked to the guys and they said the ash tree likely would not survive because they had to really hack the roots away because they were all wrapped around my gas line. The cherry tree according to them would be fine. The reason for my concern is they don't have the trees roots proteted at all they are just exposed to the air, no burlap bags, no dirt nothing. Should I replant these trees somewhere else as soon as possible?

Yes. You could cover the ground around the base of the trees with just about anything for a while to keep them from totally drying out, and even water around them too. The ash tree might survive anyway so it's worth replanting.
