I own my home and receive SS Disability. Thirty years ago my recently diseased husband, USMC retired had part of his pay deducted when the Department of Defense offered Survivor Benefit Plan Annuity for me. It's just enough money to keep my head above the shark infested waters. Two attorneys told me to ignore the incoming judgments on credit cards approx 20K by the time they are finished with me. Property values are in the down or I would sell, and try to settle this debt and get a smaller home with lower taxes. My car technically is a medical device that carries my Dr Prescribed (150 lb.) heavy power chair.
If I can't sell sooner than later I was told to forget about them and the judgment would end in 10 years and hopefully they will not refile. Can they take away my annuity and car?

Your disability can't be touched by the creditor but your pension can be. They will probably end up getting a judgment against you and put a lien on your home in hopes that you sell it and they get paid. And they could possibly go after your car.

How much do you owe these folks now (before all is said and done). I know you mentioned 20K above, but how much is it now?

You may consider bankruptcy to discharge the debt as it might be cheaper for you to do so. Have you consulted with a bankruptcy attorney about this yet?
