I'm taking AP European History this year and my textbook is simply boring and doesn't do a good job at explaining things in a way I can understand. I know that French supports had Clement V elected Pope and moved the papacy to Avignon in 1305 but the effects of this and how it is related to the Great Schism are not clear to me. Would someone please explain 1) what was the Avignon papacy and why it occurred. 2) what effects did it have on the papacy. 3) how is it related to the Great Schism 4) why was the conciliar movement such a setback for the papacy?? (this question realllly frustrates me!)
Thank you whoever responds to this, I am very frustrated with this course and I would really appreciate any kind person who has the correct knowledge to explain this to me or maybe a useful website.
Thanks!
