I am a senior citizen on SS. My only income & assets are my SS check which is directly deposited into my checking account. I have received a summons in the mail from a collection agent. How can I prevent my checking account from being frozen. I am handicapped & permanently homebound due to illness & can't get to court. I have no means of transportation & live in low income housing. This is frightening. Please advise. Thank You.

You will need to go to the bank and talk to the manager and show them proof that the only income is SS and that is all the money that goes into that account.

Also you need to GO and APPEAR in court and do the same

If you do nothing, yes it will be frozen and then with no money you will have to go back to court, get a court date and prove that is the only money in the account to get it released.

Better yet, get the check mailed to you, not direct deposit and do not use a bank account

There should be handicap transportation available for medical and court house visits in almost every area of the US.
