I have Windows Vista, which came with this computer,
And occasionally get files from my daughter's school designated to Windows Media Center, which I can't open in anything. There seems to be nowhere to open it in Media Center, but when I click it... that's where it takes me. Very frustrating.

What are the file extensions of the files you can't open?

Does it play the files for you? What is it your trying to do with them besides play them?

I'm just trying to read them... they are bulletins about current school events.

They have a Doc. Extension.

DOC is opened with Microsoft WORD, part of the Office Suite.

If you don't have this then Open Office does the trick and it's FREE.

I have Microsoft Works, but the only thing that would open it is notepad... and it comes up all giberish.

Works doesn't.

Best idea, go grab Open Office and it'll work fine from there.
It's available here: OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite (http://www.openoffice.org/)
