When it never used to fire that often. Only my washer and laundry tub empty into it. Will I burn it out, firing this often? It's 10 yrs old now. Is it possible that the float has slipped and it fires now at a lower level? It does also double as a sump when it rains heavily.

I would remove they cover and inspect the float, could have slipped. Lots of folks might think 4 short pumps is equal to one long pump cycle in motor longevity but not so. It's the starting of the motor that accounts for a great deal of the motor life.

I agree with Bob, especially about the life of the pump. Also check to see if water is draining back from the discharge pipe after the pump has shut off. If so you may need a check valve in discharge pipe.
