When you click on the pop up and go to the site it shows up.
I will guess you have a teenage boy who , like 90% of teenage boys, spend a lot of time online. And like so many do, they will try to sneak in a porn site
I would ban him from computer use 1 week for every porn hit. Three strikes and you're out for a month. He'll remember that.
You can block him from a good majority of those sites with various methods and software.
If you have discovered he has been to a porn site or two , don't be too worried. They all do it. It's a male thing.
As long as it is not child porn , and has been infrequently , some time away from the computer usually has a definite effect.
You are a good parent to be checking on his activities, finding out the truth , and caring for your child. God bless you for that.
I wish you well

The one thing to remember is that pop-ups are usually specific to whatever website you're visiting.
For example, if you're on myxer.com (a website for ringtones, wallpapers etc for a cellphone) the pop-ups you might get are somewhat related to the topic of the site.
So if adult type pop-ups were coming up then most likely he was on a site that was more adult related, whether it was porn or not I can't say. He could have been on a P2P site, or torrent site. (they usually pop-up random things as well).
I am not saying that all popups are related to the site you're viewing but usually they do.
As far as popups on history, I have never really looked. I guess I will be doing some research.
Hope this helps.

I think there is a misunderstanding here. There are 3 types of things that can happen.
1) a popup - That's something that shows right in front of you.
2) a popunder - that is something that shows under the current page you are viewing.
3) a redirect - That is an actual page that the browser goes to.
You need to run filters at max levels and passwords on your child's computer if this is happening. Also keep the computer in a common area and only allow internet access when your home and able to monitor. One thing that can never be overidden and that's the parental popin. Keep an eye on the kids when using that internet.

I don't think there was a misunderstanding. When answering a question you have to answer with general society logic. The three things you mentioned are correct but only one thing relates to the OP. A redirect may or maynot show up but when the OP said popup, I believe she meant a normal popup that shows up in front of you. The general public isn't as aware of these issues and when answering questions you have to be aware of this. I am not saying you are wrong because you're not but I just think you went a little deep.
