Hi, I am new to any kind of online forum. Was looking for info about early miscarriage and found this site. Was hoping to get some feedback from other people who may have had a similar experience to me. I found out about 3 weeks ago that I was pg. Started spotting last Monday, so went to doc. Sent me for bloods and u/s. Wed had Vg/u/s showed 5wk 2d fetus with heart rate 111 b/min. Was stunned as I was expecting the worst. Hcg levels on Tues 1590. Thurs night, some cramping, more blood and passing clots. Back to doc, sent for bloods yesterday morn and hcg only 2020. Doc saying not to stress as heartbeat was present and hcg rising. He says I have to wait 5 days for another b/t and 10-12 for another u/s. Bleeding now is like a v light period, no pain but I would have expected hcg to rise more than 430 in 3 days, from what I've read they should have at least doubled. I just want to know either way so I can deal with whichever outcome. The not knowing is doing my head in! I have two teenage children and never had any bleeding at all with those pregnancies so I'm in unfamiliar territory. I would really appreciate any ideas or opinions about this.

Hi carinacolleen, and welcome to AMHD... :)

It's easier said than done, but try not to worry too much about the hcg level. It is rising, even if not doubling, but even more importantly is that baby's heartbeat was seen.

Not all hcg levels double, and while a slower rise may indicate concern, it doesn't always.

Also, that the bleeding is very light and there is no cramping are also good signs. While it should be checked, some women do have some spotting or bleeding in very early pregnancy... some even farther into it for various reasons.

I wish there was a cut and dried answer, but it really is a matter of waiting until you have the next bloods drawn and another scan.

Wishing you well...

Thank you so much for your response. I couldn't wait the five days for another blood test so I went to a different
Doctor who sent me for more blood tests this morning. The doctor feels that it is most likely that I have miscarried and sent me
For another blood test straight away. She is going to ring me with the hcg levels this afternoon. I think if the levels have dropped
Then I will be able to start grieving the loss of the baby. The roller coaster ride of not knowing has been very emotionally draining!
I will update what's happening one way or another as I'm hoping my experience may help other ladies in the future.

I am so sorry to hear this... still hoping for the best, but I understand the need to be prepared in any case.

Hello, I received the results from my blood test and my hcg levels have plummeted to
160. So it is certain that I have had a miscarriage. Quite sad, but I believe something
Obviously wasn't quite right with the pregnancy. I have to go for an ultrasound in a couple
Of weeks to ensure everything has come away properly.

carinacolleen... so very sorry. In all likelihood things were not going as they should.

I wish you well...
