View Full Version : Can being delinquent on payments to a daycare center affect your credit?

I was behind by about 3 weeks worth of payments when my child's summer camp ended. They never gave me a statement or requested the payments from me. I expected to get one in the mail with intentions of paying the amount when I was able to. The total weekly payments were only 40 dollars less than what I bring home, so it was extremely hard to keep up with the payments. Anyway a month has gone by now and still no bill, and I still don't have enough to pay the balance. Does any one know how daycares handle this kind of situation? Can they report to credit agencies or send me to collection without sending me any bills to my home?

Any creditor can report a debt to the credit bureaus if they have an account.

Is this considered an account though? I don't have an account number that I know of. And are they required to send me any bills or late notices before they report?

The probability that they have an account with a bureau is small. But yes, they are required to inform you that you are delinquent first.

Why haven't you asked for a bill?

They provided a service and expect to be paid.with that being said, I am sure you filled out paper work when you enrolled your kids and that is what "they"
Will consider your account number
Why don't you try to work out a payment plan instead of letting it go to collectons and appear on your credit report?

That's what I intended to try to do, but they haven't contacted me at all with a balance. Thanks for your advice.

They should not have to contact you. You should know what you owe or close to it,call and ask them to give you a total and then see if they will work out a payment plan.
