View Full Version : How do I encourage my boyfriend to sleep more during the week?

My boyfriend hardly sleeps at all. He seems to think that getting by on 5 or 6 hours a night is fine for him. The thing is, he has started falling asleep at extremely inconvenient times. We're in a long distance relationship, so we only get to see each other for a day or two at a time every couple of weeks. When we are together, he always sleeps in super late to try to catch up on his sleep, and sometimes will fall asleep and take a couple hour long nap in the middle of the day. He has also fallen asleep while on the phone with me several times, a couple of time which were during phone sex, which obviously didn't make me feel very good. Today he was supposed to fly to visit me, but he slept through his alarm.
I wouldn't mind it so much if we had more time together, but his excessive sleeping on the weekends really cuts into our time together. At first I thought it was kind of cute, but now I'm getting sick of it. Any ideas on how to encourage him to sleep more without sounding uber controlling?

I would just be straight up and say,'hey sleeping beauty, your catching zzz's on our time together and I'm upset about it because I miss you and I don't see you, what do you think?'

Or words to that effect.

If he does not see a problem with it,that's the problem, not the sleeping.

He works hard during the week and likes to relax at the weekend, don't we all!

Try and find a compromise, maybe sleep late on Saturday but make solid plans for the rest of the day and chill out on sundays, something easy going.

Stop putting up with him falling asleep on you.

The issue of 6 hours sleep is not a problem if he can really go on that much sleep, Personally I seldom get more than 6 hours sleep a night, but then I don't ever fall asleep during the day.

Explain that his lack of sleep is effecting your relationship and that he should be rested when he is visiting and not falling alseep
